Tragedy Strikes as Helicopter Crash Claims 3 Lives in British Columbia

A tragic incident unfolded in west-central British Columbia as a helicopter from Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, based in Terrace, B.C., crashed, resulting in the loss of three lives. The company confirmed the fatalities in a recent press release, though specific details about the number of individuals involved in the crash near the city were not disclosed.

The B.C. Emergency Health Services received notification of the crash on Monday afternoon, prompting the dispatch of three air ambulances and five ground ambulances. Four patients, in critical condition, were treated by paramedics and subsequently transported to Terrace’s Mills Memorial Hospital.

Sub-Lieut. Wilson Ho, spokesperson for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria, reported the deployment of a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter to assist in the response efforts.

Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, deeply affected by the tragedy, has engaged the critical incident stress management team from HeliCat Canada. This trade association represents the helicopter and snowcat skiing industry and offers services such as debriefing and peer support during challenging times.

John Forrest, the president and general manager of Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to safety for guests, staff, and guides. He stated, “It is our top priority and the most important work we do.” The company is actively collaborating with the RCMP and other authorities to contribute to the investigation into the incident’s cause.
